Origins

Watercolor paper, acrylic paint, acetate, playing cards
A piece that tells the history of playing cards. Because playing cards originated from the tarot, which is based upon planetary motion and movement of the stars, I opted to create a piece that is reminiscent of the solar system. Viewers were encouraged to find their favorite card of the deck and take the message that's attached to it with them.
Can be improved upon by expanding the "stars" throughout the entire room.

Childish Wall

Childish. Wall.
Two words given; the first being the theme, while the latter, the location.
I take on the character of a child who stumbles upon a Rube Goldberg contraption. The whole idea of a Rube Goldberg device is to accomplish a simple task utilizing complex methods.

House of Cards

18 Decks of playing cards

Inspired by Sol Lewitt and his geometric sculptures. Emphasizes impermanence, as most of Lewitt's work are temporal.

The New and the Familiar

Assignment was to combine existing knowledge with newly-learned knowledge and create a piece that would be related to my major. Planning on going into Graphic Design, I combined typography (familiar) with vector-based drawing (new). The text, words with negative denotations, come together to form something elegant and graceful. Was printed large format; 24" X 36", cost $50, only to discover that "awkward" had been spelled wrong. I guess this is the place to make these silly mistakes.

The Book of Magic

Plywood, cotton, paper
An A to Z book of magicians, both historical and contemporary. A locking mechanism is inside the outer case. Mainly a showcase of magicians the general public would never hear about, but are essential to the history and the evolution of magic.
